Backgammon For Charity2008-06-26
Andy James
The game of backgammon has once again contributed to a worthy cause. Last week saw Hurkans and Sayman Chartered Accountants organise a backgammon tournament in aid of two charities.
The Noah's Ark Children's Centre and Turkish charity Pro Cancer Research Fund (PCRF) have both benefited from the proceeds of the tournament, held at the Kimiz Restaurant in Edmonton. The winner of the tournament was Mem Catering Director, Hamdullah Erpolat followed by Euromed's MD Hasan Gazi in second and journalist Mustafa Cetinkaya in third. Fourth place was awarded to Tahsin Benki. The annual tournament is held in honour of accountant and Enfield councillor Ertan Hurer's mother Nilufer. Nilufer lost her battle to cancer at the young age of 43. The Nilufer Cup was presented to winner Hamdullah Erpolat who said it was a great honour to win the prestigious event. The proceeds from the tournament were then presented to PCRF and the Noah's Ark Children's Centre.
