The 2007 Turkish Backgammon Championship

Congratulations to WBF- Turkey representative, Arda Fındıkoğlu and all participants who have successfully competed in the 2007 Turkey Traditional Backgammon Championship.

One of two annual championships, the 2007 autumn WBF - Turkey, XI. Traditional Backgammon Championship, held on the 18th of September this year welcomed a total of 113 participants from 9 cities (İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Zonguldak, Bursa, Tekirdağ, Kırıkkale, Balıkesir, İzmit). WBF – Turkey members who travelled from different parts of the world all had another chance to meet with old friends and compete in what was said to be an exciting championship.

Aside from the main event, there were also other smaller events held through out the duration of the championship including the Arena Event, Consultant Couples and the Women's Event. Sponsors for the champioinship included the Arma Restaurant, Ikiyldız Kristal, Yenigün Tavla, 869BG, NSM Tempur, Delfi Hotel and Güveççi Restaurant.

Gültekin Uygur from Istanbul and Hamza Nar from Izmir battled their way to secure a seat in the grand final. Although this game went on until the wee hours of the morning, it still managed to draw a large crowd of spectators. In the end, Hamza Nar from Izmir beat Uygur 9-5 in 65 minutes. This win had significant meaning for Hamza as he also came close to winning the championship in 2005 but had to leave disappointed.

Hamza Nar is the first person to win two WBF-Turkey championships and he also took home the first prize for the Arena Event. We congratulate Hamza on his spectacular win and wish continued success in the future.
