Gus Hansen to Join WSOB Reporting Team

The World Series of Backgammon has announced that Gus Hansen will be joining John Clark and Jessie Cantrell as co-commentator on the reporting team this year.

Most know Hansen as a professional backgammon and poker player. Hansen is the proud winner of the 2007 Aussie Millions and four time WPT champion. Having played some form of poker and backgammon for the last 30 years, John Clark is a well known and experienced player as well as an award winning commentator. Jessie Cantrell is best known as the current host of the Black20 News, a popular entertaining news programme aimed at the young online demographic.

Tournament reporting will be broadcasted live on Eurosport 1 & 2 in Europe. The dynamic trio will be following the action at four live events on the WSOB tour: The UK Masters in London in November 2007, The TrueMoneygames Nordic Open in Copenhagen in March 2008 and The Cannes Riviera Cup in July 2008 with the coveted WSOB Finals to follow immediately after.

This year the WSOB has introduced a new format to the championship. The most notable difference is the irresistible prize and increased number of qualifiers and opportunities for entry into the championship.

Let's have a look at some of the changes...

1) A total of 16 players, 8 from 3 live events and 8 from online rooms will win an entry ticket worth Euro 10,000.
2) The WSOB will end with the Grand Finale immediately following The Riviera Cup. The Grand Finale will contain shootouts and three point matches.
3) The location of the online satellites has yet to be announced. Winners of the online satellites and qualifiers from the live events will receive their Euro 10,000 Grand Finale entry seats immediately.
4) Live qualifying events to the UK Masters will take place at the Casino Empire, Leicester Square between September and October.

Andy Bell, producer for the WSOB, has emphasized on the enthusiasm of players and all those involved in the preparations leading up to the event this year. Bell also said that hundreds of backgammon players will compete for a chance in the WSOB Hall of Fame, which, he said, is a clear indication of a colourful season of events.
