Regular readers would know that we have previously been featuring articles from play65. Today we also add articles from Gammon Empire.

Gammon Empire is a backgammon room that aims for the top in the online backgammon world. For further details, visit their review in our site.

The first article we'd like to discuss is in regards to luck and probability. In regards to opening dices let us look at probable rolls of two dices. Let us assume one of the dice is blue and the other is red. As seen below there are 36 probable dice rolls:

Each one of the six doubles come once

and all of the non-double probabilities come twice. Therefore there are only 15 opening dice probabilities.

Five of these are played as follows:

31 is played by making the 5-pt (8/5, 6/5) 42 is played by 4-pt (8/4, 6/4) 53 is played by 3-pt (8/3, 6/3) 61 is played by making the bar-pt (13/7, 8/7) 65 is played by putting one checker back to the middle point 24/13.

The other opening dices enables all the possible choices. There are three types of options:

• Take one checker back or play with making relationships
• Place the 5-pt point or put aside two checkers at the back
• Move down from the mid-point or put aside the checkers at the back

For the rest, we look at the first category that includes the six dices. 62, 63, 64.

All of these dices can be played by taking one checker back with 24/16, 24/15, 24/14 in order. These are mostly games that are old, normal games are like these:

62 24/18, 13/11 63 24/18, 13/10 64 24/18, 13/9

The main points for these movements are to cause good hits at the opponents bar-point or enable this in the next roll. It should be noted that in certain game scores, 8/2, 6/2 could be played appropriately.

The dices in the second category are 21, 41, 51.

The placement games are these:

21 13/11, 6/5 41 13/9, 6/5 51 13/8, 6/5

and the harmonious denotations are these:

21 13/11, 24/23 41 13/9, 24/23 51 13/8, 24/23

The placement games result with a complicated game. On the other hand, denotations lead to more simple positions.

In the final category are these: 32, 43, 52 and 54. The possible preferences are:

32 13/10, 13/11 43 13/9, 13/10 54 13/8, 13/9 52 13/8, 13/11

and the harmonious denotations games are these:

32 13/10, 24/21 43 13/9, 24/21 or 13/10, 24/20 54 13/8, 24/20 52 13/8, 24/22

The placement games result with complicated games while the denotation games lead to more simple ones.

As the match comes to an end or one of the players is obviously leading; simple moves should be taken. You should wait for your opponent to make mistakes.
